The cast has been revealed for the world première of Crongton Knights, Emteaz Hussain’s adaptation of Alex Wheatle’s young adult novel.

A consortium featuring Pilot Theatre, Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre, Derby Theatre and York Theatre Royal is mounting its second production. The first was an adaptation by Sabrina Mahfouz of Malorie Blackman’s Noughts and Crosses earlier in 2019.

The cast includes Olisa Odele, Marcel White as McKay, Aimee Powell as Venetia, Kate Donnachie as Bushkid, Simi Edgebjumi-David as Festus, Khai Shaw as Jonah and Nigar Yeva as Saira.

Crongton Knights will be co-directed by Corey Campbell, co-artistic director of the Belgrade Theatre for 2021 and artistic director of Strictly Arts, and Esther Richardson, artistic director of Pilot Theatre.

Designer is Simon Kenny. The set will be created in Coventry by the Belgrade Production Services workshop.

Original music will be by Conrad Murray of Battersea Arts Centre Beatbox Academy. Lighting is by Richard G Jones.

Crongton Knights will première on the B2 stage at the Belgrade Theatre from 8 until 22 February 2020. It will then go to York Theatre Royal, Brighton Theatre Royal, Salford Lowry, Derby Theatre, Lawrence Batley Theatre and Theatre Peckham, London until 9 May.
