Morpeth-based performing arts company The November Club is to celebrate the 300th anniversary of landscape gardener Capability Brown with promenade performances of The Perfect View at National Trust Wallington.

Lancelot “Capability” Brown, who was born in Kirkharle, near Cambo in Northumberland just a few miles from Wallington, created over 250 landscapes during his lifetime. This celebration of his life and work invites audiences to join a “celebrity landscape gardener”, played by actor John Cobb, to explore the grounds of National Trust Wallington in pursuit of "The Perfect View".

The piece is inspired by a collection of drawings by Brown that are owned by Wallington. A selection of these will be on display at the property until Sunday 30 October.

Participants will hear all about how to build a Ha-Ha, how to change the course of rivers, create lakes, transport villages and use a tree-moving machine… all in pursuit of the perfect view. Discovering the stories and secrets of Wallington’s gardens past and present, visitors will also encounter a young Capability Brown and friends, played by a group of children from local Cambo First School.

Brown himself went to school in Cambo village and left Northumberland in 1739, going on to become England’s most significant landscape gardener. He was nicknamed "Capability" because of his uncanny knack of assessing "the capabilities of nature".

The four performances will take place on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 July at 1:30PM and 4PM. Tickets are £10 and there are only 25 available for each performance. To book, 'phone 0844 249 1895 or visit Wallington’s web site.
