Five actors are being offered ensemble parts in the Touring Consortium Theatre Company’s new adaptation of Meera Syal’s Anita and Me when it plays at Wolverhampton Grand in February 2017.

The coming-of-age tale follows Meena, the irreverent teenage daughter of the only Punjabi family in the mining village of Tollington. When she becomes friends with the impossibly feisty Anita, she thinks she has found her soul mate but her world is turned upside down and she finds herself caught between two cultures.

Anita and Me paints a “colourful portrait of village life in the West Midlands in the 1970s, an era of flares, power cuts and glam rock”.

The Touring Consortium Theatre Company is looking for two white young women, two white young men and one young Asian woman.

Auditions will be held on Saturday 19 November at the Grand Theatre. Those who get through will be expected to attend all rehearsals and performances. Applicants should be 16 or over with preferably some stage experience. Anyone who wants to be considered should e-mail [email protected] for an application form.

Anita and Me runs at the Grand from 14 until 18 February.
