Amateur and semi-professional theatre groups, schools and colleges are being offered the chance to put on an open-air play in Stratford.

The Royal Shakespeare Company is allowing organisations to present a play by Shakespeare or one of his contemporaries at The Dell on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the summer.

More than 9,000 people watched 48 performances by 19 theatre companies, schools, universities and community groups in 2013.

The Dell co-ordinator Nicola Salmon said, “We’re offering companies the opportunity to promote their performances and take part in a skills workshop with one of our professional theatre practitioners.

“Last year companies such as the Royal Navy Theatre Association performed Henry V and The Handlebards brought us Twelfth Night as part of a 926-mile tour of the UK, all on four bicycles!”

Performance times at The Dell are available on Saturdays and Sundays from 7 June until 31 August. There are two performance slots a day, although the exact times of the performances may vary.

Anyone interested in performing should submit an application form which can be downloaded from the RSC’s web site. The closing date for applications is Friday 21 March.
