Birmingham’s Old Joint Stock Theatre is to produce a new musical at Christmas 2025 which is inspired by “the single, most-viewed Christmas Day film of all time in the UK”, Crocodile Dundee, and the Christmas classic It’s a Wonderful Life.
It's a Wonderful Knife—Christmas Dundee is set on Christmas Eve. Hollywood star Paul Hogan is feeling old and forgotten. It’s the day after his old screen companion, Burt the crocodile, died aged 90. Paul wonders if life would have been better if he’d never been born. Meanwhile, Burt is sent back down to earth to save Paul and show him the positive impact his life has had on the world.
Old Joint Stock artistic director James Edge said, “after two years of producing UK premières of fantastic, lesser-known contemporary shows and expanding to well-known cult favourites, the Old Joint Stock is extremely excited to be producing two new musicals this Christmas, with the first being It’s a Wonderful Knife—Christmas Dundee.
“When Crocodile Dundee was shown on the BBC on Christmas Day 1989, it was viewed by 21.8 million people. So how did we tie this in and make it into a Christmas show? You’ll have to buy a ticket and find out.”
Composed by Adam Gerber, It's a Wonderful Knife—Christmas Dundee will run at the Old Joint Stock Theatre from Wednesday 3 until Tuesday 30 December.
