Birmingham’s Blue Orange Theatre is to run a series of courses for beginners and young people.

An Introduction to Acting offers a “thorough, practical introduction to acting in an enjoyable and supportive environment”. The course is ideal for those with little or no acting experience and runs on Wednesdays from 7 to 9PM from 22 January until 26 March.

An eight-week beginners’ course to learn the core skills of improvised comedy which is “also good for writers, actors and comedians looking to widen their skills” will be held on Thursdays from 7:30 to 9:30PM from 23 January until 13 March.

Blue Orange Youth Theatre classes “aim to provide an exciting, enjoyable and creative platform for local young people to learn skills in creating excellent quality theatre”.

The Saturday classes are divided into juniors and seniors, with juniors aged from 7 to 13 meeting from 10 until 11:30AM while seniors, aged from 14 to 18, assemble from midday until 1:30PM. The course starts on 18 January and lasts for ten weeks.

Students can also take part in performance combat classes which lead to a European certificate of skilled performance combat.

An examination will be held at the end of the course: students will be expected to perform and link a range of performance combat techniques both in isolation and as part of a choreographed fight sequence.

The ten-week course runs from 7 to 8:30PM on Mondays. Further information is available at the Blue Orange web site.
