Oldham Coliseum Theatre’s autumn-winter 2016-17 sees a mix of classic stories from Patrick Hamilton and Terence Rattigan, popular modern comedies from Paul Allen and Tom Wells and a comedy take on classic Jane Austen.

The season opens on September 7 with Brassed Off, featuring the musical talents of four Oldham-local brass bands during the run.

The Coliseum presents Tom Wells’s latest comedy, Jumpers For Goalposts, running from October 7 to 22. It finds LGBT five-a-side team Barely Athletic licking their wounds in the changing room post-match.

The New Year takes a dark turn with Patrick Hamilton’s Victorian mystery thriller Gaslight, opening on February 3.

The theatre’s pantomime this year is Sleeping Beauty. Fine Time Fontayne dons the oversized hips once again as the wicked Queen Carabosse puts an evil spell on beautiful Princess Rose and a handsome prince is needed to break the spell.

Elsewhere, English Touring Theatre joins forces with The Orange Tree Theatre, Richmond-upon-Thames and Exeter Northcott Theatre for a tour of Terence Rattigan’s French Without Tears, coming to the Coliseum from October 25-20, and comedy duo LipService returns with their take on Jane Austen, Mr Darcy Loses The Plot, from January 18 to 21.

The Coliseum’s Studio Theatre programme of new writing continues through the autumn and winter months, with four plays.
