Richard III: relocated to contemporary Russia

Leicester Curve’s artistic director Nikolai Foster is searching for talented performers from across Leicestershire to join the cast of Shakespeare’s Richard III, the latest community production at the theatre.

Foster will direct this contemporary production which will be relocated to contemporary Russia and staged in the Studio.

Says Foster, “in a year that’s seen our city and county invigorated by the reinterment of Richard III, we thought it fitting to look at Shakespeare's tragedy through contemporary eyes. We feel this is a great opportunity to present this play in our city.

“It’s clear the talent in this region is phenomenal and awe-inspiring. I‘m looking forward to collaborating with a diverse group of people, both young and old, on one of Shakespeare's most thrilling tragedies.”

Curve is looking for strong actors who do not need stage experience. Anyone aged from 8 to 80 can audition.

Auditions will take place between May and July in Leicester. Those taking part will have to perform a piece of Shakespeare of their choice.

Application forms are available at the Curve web site and should be returned before Monday 13 April. Richard III will run from 25 July until 9 August.
