Consett Empire to remain closed until 2021

A statement from Consett Empire Theatre and Cinema:

"As a result of Government restrictions to prevent the spread of coronavirus, we have regrettably taken the decision that the Empire Theatre will remain closed until January 2021.

"However, we will be using this period to undergo a refurbishment of the venue, to create a more modern customer environment.

"It’s very disappointing not to be able to present our autumn programme for you, but I’m sure you understand that the safety of our customers, staff and performers is our priority.

"As a result of the closure, many of our performances have been rescheduled or cancelled."
