Four artists have been chosen by Northamptonshire venue The Core at Corby Cube to create a new piece of art that harnesses the stories of the county’s residents.

Core Calls was set up in May to ensure that people in the community facing loneliness and isolation or who were without access to broadband or hardware could speak to a friendly voice to chat about their concerns, fears, hopes and aspirations during lockdown.

Dancer and choreographer Tim Casson, illustrator Rosie May, songwriter and storyteller Mike McGrother and crafter and artist Phiona Richards will staff a phone line for four weeks before creating work inspired by their conversations.

The Core at Corby Cube director Joe Flavin commented, “I’ve had some fascinating conversations with people—some of whom had stories to tell and others just wanted a chat. I’m excited to see how these brilliant artists can continue to offer this sometimes vital human-to-human conversation and capture the spirit of our community to create something lasting as a memory of this strange time.”

Each artwork will be showcased in autumn 2020. Anyone who would like to chat to one of the artists should ring 01536 470479. Lines are open from Monday to Friday from 12 noon until 6PM. Alternatively you can e-mail [email protected] leaving your name and number so that someone can return your call.
