Core role for Nick who snaps up Corby job

Nick Walker, new director of The Core at Corby Cube

Northamptonshire venue The Core at Corby Cube has appointed Nick Walker as its new director to replace Chris Sudworth who has left for The Old Rep Theatre, Birmingham.

Walker is a Perrier Award-nominated director, writer and producer who has worked in the theatre and broadcast sector for more than 20 years.

He was previously co-artistic director of Coventry-based theatre company Talking Birds and helped secure its funding status as an Arts Council England national portfolio organisation.

As director of independent radio company Top Dog, his plays and short stories are regularly featured on BBC Radio 4.

Martin Sutherland, chief executive of The Core at Corby Cube and Northampton’s Royal and Derngate, said, “Nick is extremely well respected as a writer, director and producer both nationally and particularly here in the Midlands. We’re thrilled that he’ll be bringing his experience and vision to The Core.”

Morag Ballantyne, chair of the board added, “Nick stood out in a competitive selection process and impressed us with his ambitions for The Core and with his passion for Corby.

“I’m confident that Nick will build on our successes over the last five years and ensure that The Core continues to reach new audiences and be at the heart of our community.”
