Jack and the Beanstalk: nominations for best panto and best script

The Courtyard Hereford’s Jack and the Beanstalk has been nominated in two categories in the UK Pantomime Association’s Great British Pantomime awards for 2022: best script for Lyndsay Maples and best panto.

Maples, who also received a nomination for best script for Cinderella in 2020, said, “Jack and the Beanstalk was a very special show because there was no panto in 2020 and we didn't know if our audiences would be brave enough to attend. But the people of Herefordshire did us proud, coming back in their noisy droves to show their support.”

Director Estelle van Warmelo added, “every year, an extraordinary amount of hard work goes into the Courtyard panto and every year the whole team displays remarkable ability, creativity and strength. But never was this more the case than with Jack and the Beanstalk.

“Countless obstacles arose throughout the production period and if it hadn’t been for this wonderful company pulling together, it simply wouldn’t have happened at all.

“We’re very lucky to have been working with a squad of superheroes who made it work against all the odds and did so with such good grace. They brought enormous levels of joy to all of us at Christmas.”

The awards ceremony will take place on Tuesday 19 April at Trafalgar Theatre in London’s West End and will be hosted by Christopher Biggins.
