Demystifying the industry: the Courtyard’s Forge masterclasses

The Courtyard Hereford is to offer a series of masterclasses which are designed to help young people forge a career in the arts.

Two Forge masterclasses will be scheduled each month and include an introduction to screenwriting on Saturday 20 February, how to start your career in showbiz on Saturday 13 March and how to ace auditions on Saturday 27 March. Sessions will be delivered online and are being offered with three pay-what-you-can options.

Writer and digital director Lisle Turner will lead two of the masterclasses. She said, "show business is about telling stories. It’s important for everyone that the voices telling those stories come from all regions of the UK and all walks of life.

“In these sessions, I want to demystify the industry and the skills involved so that participants can decide freely if it's right for them. We’ll do that by trying things out in a relaxed and good-humoured environment—no pressure, just creative fun.”

Jamie Hutton, who will deliver the how to ace auditions masterclass, added, "auditions can be daunting for a budding actor but they really don't have to be. In fact auditions can often be one of the most rewarding aspects of working in theatre.

“I hope that in this workshop I can teach you how to prepare for any audition scenario and give some useful techniques that will really make your audition stand out."

The Forge masterclasses are aimed at those aged between 16 and 25 who have a passion for the arts and are looking to start a career in the industry. Further information is available at the Courtyard web site.
