Crime, comedy and ballet in new Buxton season

Jane Eyre visits Buxton Opera House from 11 until 13 April

Drama during the new season at Buxton Opera House includes offerings from the Agatha Christie Company, Hull Truck and John Godber.

Queen of Crime Agatha Christie’s mystery of mixed motives and concealed identities, A Murder is Announced, visits the Derbyshire spa town from Tuesday 22 until Saturday 26 January.

Woody Sez—The Life and Music of Woody Guthrie, a play celebrating the spirit of the American folk legend, is at Buxton for one night on Monday 4 February before Boeing Boeing which is on a national tour takes off from Thursday 28 February until Saturday 2 March.

Hull Truck Theatre Company will bring to life Charlotte Bronte’s tale of love, loss and redemption Jane Eyre from Thursday 11 until Saturday 13 April.

Miss Julie, banned in the UK until 50 years after it was written, should stir up emotion with its portrayal of sexuality and inter-class relationships on Tuesday 30 April; and John Godber’s Losing the Plot should provide belly-laughs, pathos, wry smiles and tears from Thursday 2 until Saturday 4 May.

Ballet at Buxton includes Swan Lake (Thursday 7 and Friday 8 March) and The Nutcracker (Saturday 9 March) by the Russian State Ballet of Siberia.

Birmingham Royal Ballet takes three works, The Grand Tour, Take Five and Diverts to Buxton on Tuesday 21 and Wednesday 22 May.

Ballet Theatre UK should provide a treat with Alice in Wonderland on Sunday 2 June.

The Grand Opera of Belarus presents Madam Butterfly on Sunday 10 March; Swansea City Opera visits with Don Pasquale on Sunday 31 March; and Opera UK will perform La Traviata on Thursday 16 May.
