The 2019 Culture Awards

Nominations are invited for the 13th Culture Awards, formerly the Journal Culture Awards, now the Journal and Gazette Culture Awards, which this year are held in collaboration with Middlesbrough Council, and the ceremony will take place in its Town Hall.

Anyone can nominate in any of the 16 categories, which are:

  • Visual Artist of the Year
  • Performance of the Year
  • Performing Artist of the Year
  • Newcomer of the Year
  • Writer of the Year
  • North East Museum of the Year
  • Best Arts & Business Award
  • Arts Council Award
  • Special Award for Youth Achievement
  • Special Contribution to Arts & Culture
  • Best Event: Tyneside
  • Best Event: Sunderland
  • Best Event: Northumberland
  • Best Event: Durham
  • Best Event: Tees Valley
  • Best Event: overall

There is one further category—Special Contribution to Arts and Culture for someone who has made a significant contribution to the region's culture over a long period—which will be announced on the night. And the night will be 23 May.

Nominations of people or organisations which have made a significant contribution to the North East cultural landscape during 2018 must be submitted online by 15 March. Go to the Nomination Page to submit your nomination.
