Leicester's Curve where The Water Babies will have its world première

Leicester’s Curve is to play host in 2014 to the world première of a musical inspired by Charles Kingsley’s novel The Water Babies.

Orphaned teenage hero Tom has been framed for a crime he did not commit. In a desperate attempt to escape capture, he becomes trapped on the edge of a waterfall. His only choice is to jump.

Awakening in the depths of the ocean, he encounters a new world of enchantment, danger and adventure. Desperate to get back to the girl he loves, Tom must brave underwater terrors in a world beyond his wildest imagination.

He embarks on a quest to find a way back to land. However, soon he finds he holds in his hands not only his own fate but also that of a mysterious and elusive gang of water babies.

The musical will be directed by Ed Curtis, with music by Chris Egan, and book and lyrics by Ed Curtis and Guy Jones.

The Water Babies will open on 6 May, with previews from the 24 April. It will run until 17 May.
