Leicester’s Curve has selected three participatory arts groups from the East Midlands to join a pilot scheme designed to create new work at the theatre.

Nupur Arts, 2Funky Arts and Kaine “Curve” Choir will have access to Curve’s spaces, professional support and advice; have opportunities to show their work in the building; and will help the theatre to engage wider and more diverse audiences.

Nupur Arts is an Indian dance company which regularly performs at theatre venues and presents workshops covering a diverse range of movement skills.

Nupur Arts will be staging BollyFitness—a Bollywood-inspired dance fitness class that incorporates rhythms and dance from both east and western worlds—at Curve as part of its community engagement programme.

2Funky Arts develops and delivers a variety of artistic projects in the East Midlands including establishing networks of dancers.

It will be running weekly freestyle dance workshops at Curve, offering dancers the opportunity to collaborate on routines, hone their craft, rehearse in a professional space and showcase their talent.

Kaine “Curve” Choir is a community gospel choir offering singing development skills and the opportunity to learn contemporary and gospel songs. The choir will be running weekly sessions at Curve.

The programme will be led by Suba Das, Curve’s associate director, community engagement, who said, “The scheme is a wonderful opportunity both for us to use our resources to support our partner groups and to introduce what Curve has to offer to a whole new section of the community.

“We’re fortunate to be working with three very talented and inspiring organisations and I look forward to helping them to develop and grow over the coming months.”
