Regent Dance 2013

Fifty community dance groups will be brought together for Regent Dance 2013, the annual dance festival at Stoke’s Regent Theatre.

The festival is “the UK’s largest celebration of dance featuring community-based dance companies from across the West Midlands and North West of England”.

In its 12th year, the event will involve groups dancing to music from films including soundtracks by John Williams. There will be a tribute to Hitchcock and music from Pirates of the Caribbean, Men in Black, Edward Scissorhands and Disney movies.

Festival co-ordinator and the Regent’s creative learning manager Ian Moore said, “The groups have taken great care in selecting the film tracks as they’re being supported by freelance digital artist Andy McKeown.

“Andy has taken images and footage from every film involved and created a new video track for each piece. Each performance will be accompanied by state-of-the-art digital imagery projected and created live as the performers dance. It’s really beautiful.”

The festival will be held at the Regent from Tuesday until Saturday, 5 to 9 July.

It will be dedicated to the memory of Pauline Steel (1952 - 2012), founder and director of the Steelworks dance academy, as a tribute to her work in furthering dance provision for the community.
