Darren Day has been added to the cast of Muriel’s Wedding the Musical, which will have its UK première at Leicester’s Curve in April 2025.
Day’s credits include the 2023 UK tour of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, in which he played Hugo and Loco Chanelle, and Billy Flynn in the current tour of Chicago.
Day will play “corrupt and selfish scoundrel” Bill Heslop, Muriel’s father, in Muriel’s Wedding the Musical. Laura Medforth will take the role of Muriel’s mother Betty. Muriel’s trio of siblings will be played by Jacob Warner (Perry), Joseph Peacock (Malcolm) and Lena Pattie Jones (Joanie).
As previously announced, Megan Ellis will play Muriel Heslop while Annabel Marlow will play Muriel’s “sassy and straight-talking friend” Rhonda Epinstall. Porpoise Spit’s girl gang will be led by Helen Hill as Tania, Lillie-Pearl Wildman as Cheryl, Jasmine Beel as Nicole and Daisy Twells as Janine.
Ethan Pascal Peters will play Brice, with Stephen Madsen as Alexander Schkuratov, Chris Bennett as Bill Heslop’s business partner Ken, Bronte Alice-Tadman as Deidre and Frida, Jasmine Hackett as Agnetha, Aaron Tsindos as Benny and Jamie Doncaster as Björn.
The cast is completed by Edward Turner, Carlo Boumouglbay, Andrew Berlin, Sophie Linder-Lee, Charlotte O’Rourke, Lizzie Nance, Serina Mathew, Will Luckett and Jamil Abbasi.
Muriel’s Wedding the Musical is based on the 1994 motion picture Muriel’s Wedding and will be directed by Simon Phillips. P J Hogan has updated his own screenplay for the stage. Original music will be by Kate Miller-Heidke and Keir Nuttall. The musical includes additional songs by Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus and Stig Anderson which were originally written for ABBA.
Choreography is by Andrew Hallsworth. Music supervisor is Isaac Hayward, set design is by Matthew Kinley and costume design is by Gabriela Tylesova. Video design and creation are by Andrzej Goulding. Lighting designer is Natasha Chivers, sound design is by Adam Fisher and hair, wigs and make-up design are by Campbell Young Associates. Casting is by Stuart Burt CDG CDA.
The Curve and Global Creatures co-production of Muriel’s Wedding the Musical will run at Curve from Thursday 10 April until Saturday 10 May.
