After the success of its first year, The Shelagh Delaney New Writing Award returns supported by Salford Arts Theatre.

It’s a self-funded writing award to nurture local talent and bring new voices to the stage.

Last April, Matilda Maisy Neill was the first ever winner and her play was produced and performed at Salford Arts this month.

This year, the award is open to all ages but entrants must identify as female and live in Greater Manchester.

Applications opened November 25 (the official Shelagh Delaney Day) and close April 3. A shortlist will be announced April 23, followed by the winner announced in May.

The winning writer will again receive a cash award, mentorship and have their play produced by Salford Arts in November 2023.
