Derby Theatre has teamed up with Headlong and the Nuffield Theatre, Southampton to present Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull in June.
Considered one of Chekhov’s major plays, The Seagull was written in 1895. It featured in one of the first seasons at Derby Playhouse, Derby Theatre’s former name, in 1976 and starred Derbyshire actor Sir Alan Bates.
John Donnelly’s new version of The Seagull will be directed by Blanche McIntyre.
Derby Theatre’s artistic director Sarah Brigham said, “I’m delighted that we will be working with Headlong on this new interpretation of a classic.
“Headlong are known for their bold and exhilarating productions and Blanche McIntyre is a superb director who I’m certain will breathe new life into this audience favourite.
“It’s exciting that Derby Theatre is able to support companies of this national significance to bring their work to Derby.”
The Seagull will run from Tuesday 11 June until Saturday 23 June.
