A company which “exists to create mischievous new theatre that challenges audiences and tickles their imagination” is inviting people to a new shopping experience.

Derby-based Maison Foo will be opening The Shop “where you might come out with more than you bargained for” as a prelude to a full-length production which will tour the country.

The doors to Pendulums Bargain Emporium will be open only from 12.30 until 2pm from Wednesday until Saturday (21 to 25 November) in Derby’s Cornmarket.

Customers and members of the public will be invited to enter into Maison Foo’s creative process, interacting with some intriguing shopkeepers and offering their opinions on the world of retail, greed and necessity.

The company will use “customer feedback” in devising the touring version of Pendulums Bargain Emporium which will involve Maison Foo “enticing audiences on a dark and shameless journey that treads the line between greed and necessity, raising the question ‘what lengths do we go to, to make ourselves happy?’

“It will be a desperate tale of slavery and greed told with humour, intimacy and charm using Maison Foo’s inventive visual blend of storytelling, live music, clowning and puppetry.”
