Audiences at Derby Theatre can expect more comfort in the autumn season because new seats are being installed in the auditorium.

When the University of Derby took sole control of the building earlier this year, bosses identified a number of areas which needed updating and improving. The familiar purple seats and the old carpets have now been taken out.

Derby Theatre’s marketing and sales manager Raj Chima said, “We felt it was a priority to get the worn and in some cases damaged seats replaced as soon as possible.

“The only time this could realistically be done was during the summer when we traditionally close the backstage areas and auditorium for essential maintenance work.

“We’re confident that our audiences will be impressed with the new seating and carpets.”
