Working with young people: Derby Theatre has been awarded a grant for the next three years

Derby Theatre has been awarded £120,000 from the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation to support its work with children, young people, communities and artists over the next three years.

The grant will be used to consolidate and develop the “unique” Derby Theatre learning theatre model which means creative learning opportunities are woven into the theatre process at all stages.

The Esmée Fairbairn Foundation supported the development of the learning theatre model from 2013 to 2016.

Sarah Brigham, the theatre’s artistic director and chief executive, said, “I’m delighted that the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation has decided to continue its support of Derby Theatre until 2019.

“Derby Theatre is unique in the way it integrates quality professional produced theatre with tailored learning opportunities for the next generation of artists.

“With this funding from the Foundation, we can now further develop our learning theatre model with the support of the University of Derby so that we have an even bigger impact on audiences, participants and artists.”
