Derby’s Assembly Rooms is to close from the beginning of June until the end of September for essential maintenance.
The ceiling of the Great Hall will be replaced which will improve its acoustics and lighting, according to the venue’s owners Derby City Council.
A new hardwood sprung floor will be laid and there will be a new fire alarm and detection system as well as new emergency lighting throughout the building.
City councillor Martin Repton said, “As Derby’s premier arts and entertainments venue, the Assembly Rooms has attracted literally millions of customers to many thousands of events over the past three decades.
“To ensure that we continue to give those customers a high-quality experience, these essential maintenance works need to be carried out during the quieter summer period before we open in the autumn with one of most diverse and exciting programmes to be found anywhere in the UK.”
