Auditions for Derby Theatre’s new youth theatre will be held on Saturday and Sunday (1 and 2 December).

East Midlands-based Junk Shop Theatre Company will run the youth theatre and will start weekly Sunday morning rehearsals in January.

This will lead to a performance in Derby Theatre’s main house of David Farr’s Ruckus in the Garden in April.

Loreto Murray from Junk Shop Theatre who directs said, “Ruckus in the Garden is a magical comedy with a modern reference to A Midsummer Night's Dream.

“The characters are great—a pacifist who gets beaten up, hopeless and sometimes hysterical romantics and a bunch of teenagers who are more alike than they first appear.

“Serious issues are wrapped up in the comedy and mayhem, and allow us an insight into the lives and pressures of teenagers today.”

Christina Lydon, learning manager, Derby Theatre, said, “Young people don’t need to have previous acting experience and don’t need to prepare anything in advance.”
