Gareth Cassidy as Ebenezer Scrooge at The Dukes

The Dukes in Lancaster will relocate Charles Dickens's most famous Christmas story to the city where he twice stayed and performed.

It opens on November 29 and runs until January 4.

Coronation Street scriptwriter Debbie Oates, who successfully adapted Treasure Island for the Dukes last year, has returned to give her take on this seasonal favourite.

And playing Ebenezer Scrooge will be young actor Gareth Cassidy who, as pirate Tom Morgan, proved one of the most popular characters in The Dukes 2012 Christmas production.

Performed in The Round, the show will feature original songs, puppets and illusions as the audience is taken on a journey to Christmases past, present and future.

It will be the fourth Dukes Christmas production to be directed by the venue’s artistic director Joe Sumsion.
