A Christmas CarolTwo Northamptonshire venues have planned a festive fundraising event which will mark the 200th year since the birth of Charles Dickens.

Northampton Royal and Derngate’s artistic director Laurie Sansom and The Core at Corby Cube’s creative director Chris Sudworth have collaborated to create a night of readings of Charles Dickens’s work.

It will be staged at Rockingham Castle in the rooms where Dickens spent many happy hours visiting the Watson family with whom he had formed a friendship and to whom he dedicated David Copperfield.

Funds raised by the event will be used to support the two venues’ work with young people in Northamptonshire.

A Christmas Castle—A Celebration of Dickens will be held on Friday, 14 December. Tickets cost £70 and can be booked by calling Royal and Derngate’s box office on 01604 624811 or The Core’s ticket line on 01536 470 470.

Dickens’s A Christmas Carol will be the festive production in the Royal auditorium. It will run from Wednesday, 28 November until Sunday, 6 January.
