Director Andrew Hall visits his roots

Director and co-producer Andrew Hall brings the award-winnng production of Kindertransport to The Yvonne Arnaud Theatre at Guildford where he began his theatrical career by sweeping the stage as stagehand and flyman while still at the Royal Grammar School.

Intent on becoming an actor, he walked out of school just before he was due to sit his "A" Levels and became a full-time technical ASM at the theatre, determined to secure his Equity membership before embarking on drama school training.

He worked in production management for nearly four years, undertaking every role from ASM to company and production manager and culminating in a spell as assistant director on the Royal TV series Butterflies. Recently he was see as Mark / Marcia Selby in a controversial role for ITV's Coronation Street and as the evangelist Billy Graham in Sky's Nixon's the One with Harry Shearer.

Coming to the Yvonne Arnaud as the director and co-producer of Kindertransport marks a special moment for Andrew, returning to the stage where it all began with his own production.

Kindertransport runs at the Yvonne Arnaud from 3 to 8 March.
