Sadly Badger, who was scheduled to play Candy’s dog in Touring Consortium Theatres’s forthcoming tour of Of Mice and Men, died just before rehearsals began. That has created an opportunity for other canine would-be thespians and dog owning theatre enthusiasts.

The producers are now looking for dogs that look suitably elderly to take on the role at each town on their tour. It should be a dog with a calm temperament and pass as a working dog. It is a cameo role lasting only around five minutes, appearing alongside Dudley Sutton who plays Candy and will be on a lead at all times.

The successful dogs and their owners will be required 6 till 9PM Tuesday, 7 till 9PM Wednesday to Saturday of the run and 2 till 3:30PM for the Wednesday and Saturday matinèes.

The tour opens at Birmingham Repertory Theatre on 4 February and then plays Cheltenham, Nottingham, Wolverhampton, Darlington, Blackpool, Cambridge, Brighton, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Oxford and Leicester.

Expenses of up to £300 per week will be paid.
