Donovan returns to Birmingham after panto debut

Jason Donovan will return to Birmingham Hippodrome in 2022 as the Pharaoh in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat after his panto debut in Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

The London Palladium production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will run at the Hippodrome from Tuesday 5 until Saturday 16 April. Joining Donovan will be Alexandra Burke as the narrator and Jac Yarrow as Joseph.

Newly announced productions at the Hippodrome for 2022 include Akram Khan's Jungle Book Reimagined, a new dance show based on the original story by Rudyard Kipling, on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 April.

Mischief will return to the Hippodrome with Magic Goes Wrong from Tuesday 24 until Sunday 29 May. A new production of the West End and Broadway show Beautiful—The Carole King Musical will take to the Hippodrome stage from Tuesday 30 August until Saturday 3 September.

The Hippodrome has also announced the return of Birmingham favourite Matt Slack in the 2022 pantomime Dick Whittington which will run from Saturday 17 December until Sunday 29 January 2023. It will mark Slack's ninth year of panto in Birmingham.

Musicals rescheduled from 2020 include Mamma Mia! from Tuesday 3 until Saturday 14 May, the comedy Waitress from Monday 16 until Saturday 21 May, We Will Rock You from Monday 4 until Saturday 30 July and Les Misérables from Tuesday 9 until Saturday 27 August.

Chilina Madon, director of audiences and communications at Birmingham Hippodrome, said, "we’ve had a very special autumn here at the Hippodrome, welcoming back more than 100,000 visitors in just over three months.

“We can't wait for our audiences to experience our rescheduled productions that they’ve waited so patiently for, along with some absolutely stunning new shows."
