Comedian and game show host Don Maclean is to play Dame Trott is this year’s Derby LIVE panto Jack and the Beanstalk.

The former Crackerjack front man was a regular contestant on Celebrity Squares, has hosted Songs of Praise and for more than 16 years presented Good Morning Sunday on BBC Radio 2. He received both an MBE and a Papal Knight for his services to religion and inter-faith relations.

He has also appeared in more than 40 pantos, playing dame 15 times.

Paul Holman, for pantomime producers Paul Holman Associates, said, “We have a pedigree package of daily daftness delivered by a double dose of Macleans at the Assembly Rooms this Christmas!

“Don Maclean will be joining Derby’s favourite other McClean, Mike, who returns for his third Derby LIVE panto.

“The combination of Mike’s in-your-face, quick-fire humour and Don’s traditional portrayal of pantomime dame will create a colourful tapestry of thoroughbred tomfoolery for all the family.”

Jack and the Beanstalk will run at Derby’s Assembly Rooms from Wednesday 4 December until Sunday 5 January.
