All our Daughters?

A ground-breaking project which uses drama to highlight the issues surrounding forced marriage and so-called “honour violence” tours to Derby this week.

New Vic Borderlines, the award-winning programme from the New Vic Theatre at Newcastle-under-Lyme, is behind All our Daughters? which is based on the testimonies of women from the Midlands.

The play has been written and is directed by Susan Moffat, director of New Vic Borderlines which works with people at risk of being overlooked because of their position, status, class or culture.

It will be at Derby Theatre on Thursday and Friday. There will also be a forced marriage conference on Friday during the day which will include a performance of All our Daughters?

Christina Lydon, learning manager at Derby Theatre, said, “We’re confident that the conference will be an inspirational event for Derby educators, artists and those who work in the community as well as voluntary and health sectors.

“Drama, theatre and the arts can be used very effectively to address social issues—All our Daughters? is a shining example of this and the conference is an ideal opportunity and platform to discuss and develop new, related ideas.”
