Duet for One at the Octagon

The Octagon Theatre Bolton continues its season of productions with a pair of plays by Tom Kempinski: Duet for One and Separation.

Both will be directed by Elizabeth Newman and it will be the first time they have been performed together with the same cast.

Kempinski looks deep into his own heart and explores the courage with which people can face their pain and despair to find meaning and purpose in their lives. Both plays transferred to the West End after opening for the first time, and both have played on stages all over the world, including Broadway.

Duet for One was inspired by the life of professional cellist Jacqueline Du Pré who contracted multiple sclerosis in 1972 and consequently had to give up her remarkable career. The play follows the character Stephanie Abrahams, played by Clare Foster, whose story mirrors the experiences of Du Pré’s.

Foster will also play Sarah Wise in Separation a heart warming play that sees a young American actress begin a love affair through a series of transatlantic telephone calls when she calls an English agoraphobic playwright for permission to perform his play.

Performances are from April 10 to May 10.
