The Dukes in Lancaster has received government support for its work with Lancaster district’s Gypsy, Roma and Traveller community.

A project by the theatre to support the educational aspirations of young GRT people is one of only six nationwide to be funded under a one-year pilot programme.

Dukes Creative Learning and Outreach Manager, Vicky Fletcher, said: “we are very excited to be selected to support educational achievements by the travelling community... and are thrilled to aid this important national commitment through arts and learning.”

The pilot project will build on four years of work by The Dukes mainly with GRT girls and young women as part of the MAKE Project, a cultural partnership with Lancaster University which aims to develop arts, education and learning in Lancaster.
