Robin Hood is aiming to recruit a community company to join him in Williamson Park this summer

Summer may still seem a long way off, but not for the team behind the annual promenade play in Lancaster’s Williamson Park.

Preparations for the return of The Dukes famed outdoor shows are well under way.

A new adaptation of the traditional Robin Hood tale is currently being written by the award-winning Kevin Dyer and cast auditions take place in the next few weeks.

Kevin is a member of the creative team who made The Dukes last play in the park—Merlin & The Legend of King Arthur—in 2011.

He will be reunited with Dukes director Joe Sumsion, designer Alison Heffernan, composer Mark Melville and lighting designer Brent Lees to create a unique version of the Sherwood Forest adventure.

It runs from July 5 to August 10.

The Dukes is also currently recruiting a community company that will perform alongside seven professional actors in front of hundreds of people each night.

Each adult recruit will play a number of non-speaking roles and needs to be physically fit. The Dukes is also on the look out for youngsters to play Little John’s children and experienced musicians to form a band for the production.
