MJ Hibbett and Steve Hewitt will perform at Buxton Fringe their new rock opera comedy musical Hey Hey 16K, based on a piece of Internet history.

Hibbett, who calls himself an “international rock star”, released in 1999 his hymn to the ZX Spectrum, Hey Hey 16K, said to be the world's first Internet single.

Now he has used the song as the basis for a musical, the fourth that the duo has performed. In previous years, they have come up with science fiction extravaganzas Dinosaur Planet, Moon Horse vs The Mars Men of Jupiter and Total Hero Team. This year's show is said to be more personal.

“MJ goes back in time to the 1980s to meet a teenaged version of himself, played by me," says Hewitt. “It’s the role of lifetime, though I did have to shave my beard off to do it!”

As well as home computers, time travel and teenage memories, the show features advice on beer, a biography of Ada Lovelace, new songs, tap dancing, dad jokes and even hula-hooping.

Hey Hey 16K is on at The Hydro, 75 Spring Gardens, Buxton on Saturday 18 July at 6:30PM and Sunday 19 July at 1:30PM.
