A Wondrous Place

A Wondrous Place—featuring four brand new short stories celebrating Northern cities—reaches The Studio at Manchester’s Royal Exchange from June 11-22.

Writers, artists, theatre makers and actors have come together to create four unique and surprising stories challenging the 'it's grim up North' clichés and exploring fresh and vibrant perspectives on Manchester, Sheffield, Liverpool and Newcastle and what they share.

Electricity by Sarah McDonald Hughes (Once In A House On Fire, Monkeywood Theatre, The Lowry) discovers that Manchester can be as glamorous as New York and as romantic as Paris.
Porters Brook by Matt Hartley (Sixty Five Miles, Paines Plough, Hull Truck) looks at the spirit of Sheffield people.

Dog by Luke Barnes (Bottleneck, High Tide Festival, Soho Theatre) explores redemption and forgiveness within the midnight streets of Liverpool.

Whatspacebetween by Alison Carr (Can Cause Death, Forward Theatre Project, National Theatre, Northern Stage, Latitude Festival) examines an extraordinary encounter with Gateshead's Dunston Rocket.
