The Royal Exchange Theatre and its Local Exchange Ambassador Group in Leigh are looking for entries for their LocalTALE Playwriting Competition.

Launched last year, it’s for anyone who lives in or has a connection to Leigh, Atherton or Tyldesley. Applicants are invited to submit an original 10- to 30-minute play inspired by the question "How was 2020 for you?" to be in with the chance of having their work produced and performed in the Exchange’s mobile theatre at Spinners Mill in the summer.

The deadline for submissions is April 12.

Anyone with a passion to tell stories is encouraged to enter, regardless of writing experience. And for anyone who thinks they do need some guidance or support with playwriting, a free resource pack has been developed online.

In addition, the Exchange’s dramaturg Suzanne Bell will be running two free workshops over Zoom on February 22 6–8PM and February 27 2–4PM to support entrants.

Winning plays will be staged in the Den alongside those by last year’s winners whose work could not be premièred due to the pandemic.

Extracts of their plays are, however, featured on the Leigh Local Exchange Ambassadors podcast Connecting Tales which was created and produced during lockdown.
