Maison Foo will present work in progress at DEparture Lounge

DEparture Lounge, Derby Theatre’s summer festival of new theatre, is to return for a third year.

The theatre will be transformed into a festival site where audiences and artists alike can see “the very best” in contemporary theatre.

Ruby Glaskin, creative producer of In Good Company, which provides performance opportunities for emerging artists, said, “DEparture Lounge aims to inspire artists and audiences so we can continue to cultivate culture in the East Midlands. I hope I’ve curated a programme of work that reflects this.

“There will also be masterclasses, workshops and surgeries, so it remains a brilliant opportunity to develop artistic practice.”

DEparture Lounge will be held at Derby Theatre and other venues from Thursday until Sunday, 23 until 26 July.

For audiences, highlights include Blind Man’s Song by Theatre Re, which is a “wordless tale about the power of imagination blending physical theatre, mime, illusions and a live musical score”, Unfinished Business with Maison Foo, LaPelle’s Factory and Toot Collective, work in progress that is “not quite there yet”, Electric Dreams by Dumbshow, inspired by Naomi Klein’s The Shock Doctrine which “interweaves fragmented memories in a thrilling story of personal and political intrigue”, and Early Doors by Not Too Tame, an “immersive theatrical experience” in a pub.

For artists, there will be a number of workshops including funding a production, marketing and how to take a show to Edinburgh.

There will also be a discussion around artist development which will be chaired by Lyn Gardner from The Guardian and will feature artists, producers and venue managers.

The full programme is available at the Derby Theatre web site.
