Frantic Assembly and Coventry University have unveiled what they say is Britain’s first master’s degree in association with a professional theatre company.

The “MA collaborative theatre making” degree begins in January 2015. It will offer professional training for contemporary artists from all disciplines.

Frantic Assembly and Coventry University have had a long-standing, informal relationship.

Both organisations “want to push what is possible within contemporary arts today”, with the aim of “creating a highly skilled workforce of adventurous and innovative performers and makers”.

Dr Natalie Garrett, course director for the new degree, said, “we’re thrilled to be announcing this new link-up and to be building on our relationship with one of the UK’s most exciting and dynamic contemporary theatre companies.

“Our students and graduates have been fortunate to benefit from Frantic Assembly’s expert insight over the years, but this new master’s programme will take our collaboration to a new level and will give postgraduate students a unique experience and an important edge in the job market.”

Scott Graham, Frantic Assembly’s artistic director, added, “This MA provides exciting opportunities for participants to develop their practice and understanding, to develop a total theatre approach and open up the potential of devising theatre with highly skilled collaborators.”
