Flesh from Monkeywood

A new play following three young people as they become parents for the first time will be performed in Lancaster on December 6, after already picking up enthusiastic reviews on its Manchester debut.

Flesh is based on the real experiences of young parents and can be seen at DT3, The Dukes youth specific venue in Moor Lane.

Flesh is Monkeywood Theatre’s first collaboration with Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theatre and was created after the company spent hundreds of hours with young parents from across Manchester, Trafford and Salford, gathering their true stories, opinions and insights.

They inspired acclaimed writer Sarah McDonald Hughes, who has previously written for BBC Radio and received two Best New Play nominations at the Manchester Theatre Awards.

She said: “The project and the resulting play has at its heart untold stories and it was hugely important to me from the very beginning to meet young parents and hear what they had to say. The response was fantastic and completely overwhelming.”

There’s a talk-back after the performance which is recommended for anyone aged 13 plus.
