Families are being offered the chance to see a new musical for free when it previews in Worcester before it heads to the Royal Shakespeare Company’s outdoor theatre in Stratford.
Just Be You is a collaboration between Worcester-based Mobilise Arts and Midlands Arts Centre’s Generation Q Collective, an LGBTQIA+ emerging artist company.
Written and directed by Hannah Phillips, Just Be You explores themes of wellbeing, nature and identity. It features original music by Nik Haley and musical direction by Rachel Jones.
The audience will be transported to Fairyland where River, played by Ebony Clarke, needs the audience’s help to find their fairy wings and Gaia, the goddess of the earth, played by Rachel Jones, has an “important” message about saving our planet.
Phillips said, “we all need to be seen and heard and loved for who we are. It’s vital children see our diverse identities represented on stage, in books and on TV and we reimagine how the world might be. Just Be You is full of beauty, joy and magic with important messages around love for ourselves, each other and our planet.
“Audiences are invited to come along, play some games and sing some songs with the funky non-binary fairies on skates. There’s even a fairy dog. We encourage dressing up but feel free to come as you are.”
Just Be You previews at The Arches, Worcester on Friday 9 August at 3PM and Saturday 10 August at 12 and 3PM. It then goes to the Holloway Garden Theatre, Stratford on Sunday 11 August at 1PM.
