Adrian Scarborough and Sophie Thompson in The Clothes They Stood Up In

Nottingham Playhouse has announced the full cast for Adrian Scarborough’s adaptation of Alan Bennett’s comic novella The Clothes They Stood Up In which will start the theatre’s autumn 2022 season.

As previously announced, Olivier Award winners Scarborough and Sophie Thompson will play the central roles of Maurice and Rosemary Ransome.

Completing the cast will be Ned Costello, Charlie de Melo and Natasha Magigi, each taking on a variety of roles.

Scarborough said, “to have Sophie Thompson play the lead in The Clothes They Stood Up In is the casting coup of the decade. We’ve worked together many times but never on stage and never as husband and wife.

“As if one acting legend wasn’t enough, we’re lucky enough to have three more. The wildly talented Charlie de Melo, Natasha Magigi and Ned Costello will reveal their staggering versatility, bringing vividly to life a host of delicious Bennett characters in this première of Alan’s quietly subversive, hilarious and bittersweet story.”

The Clothes They Stood Up In will run from Friday 9 September until Saturday 1 October.
