Birmingham Stage Company’s adaptation of David Walliams’s book Gangsta Granny is to make its West End debut in 2017.
The production has been nominated for a 2016 UK Theatre Award for best show for children and young people. The winner will be announced on Sunday 9 October.
David Walliams said, “I’m delighted that my Gangsta Granny is making her West End debut. It’s my most popular book so it’ll be wonderful to see the Birmingham Stage Company’s terrific adaptation in dazzling neon next summer.”
The book went to number one in the list of best-selling children’s books and has sold more than a million copies.
The Birmingham Stage Company’s actor-manager Neal Foster adapted and directs Gangsta Granny which is currently on a UK tour. BSC, which produces the Horrible Histories series, will be celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2017.
Gangsta Granny will open at the Garrick Theatre, Charing Cross Road on 1 August with previews from 26 July. It will run until 3 September.
