Gary Barlow, Tim Firth and the original Calender Girls at The Lowry

Gary Barlow surprised audiences—and North West nurses—in a one-off performance at The Lowry in Salford following a performance of his new musical The Girls.

It’s the brand-new British musical written by Barlow and Olivier Award-winning writer Tim Firth, who are both from Frodsham in Cheshire and have been friends for 25 years.

The two joined the original Calendar Girls, on which the musical is based, and the cast of the musical on stage following the show’s opening night for a special surprise encore. Gary led the audience in a rendition of the song "Dare" from the show.

More than 300 nurses were invited to this special performance, including from the charity Bloodwise, the Calendar Girls' chosen charity.
