For anyone hoping to pursue a career in the theatre, the Yvonne Arnaud is again running its apprenticeship scheme.

Based within the Youth Department, the role includes assisting in classes and workshops, working on youth theatre productions and gaining experience in marketing, funding, stage management, theatre operations and administration.

During the year, the successful candidate will contribute to as many as eight productions, working extensively in practical theatre disciplines including liighting, sound and prop and costume making.

The apprenticeship culminates in stage managing the youth theatre's two-week production run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Head of Youth Theatre, Adam Forde, explains, "this is the sixth year we have run the scheme and it's been a great success, not only for us but for the past apprentices who have gained so much as they look to start a career in the theatre.

"All of our apprentices have been very different, but the things we are looking for are energy, enthusiasm, initiative and someone who can fit into the small but dedicated team of people we have in the youth theatre".

Productions cover a wide range of genres including devised work, contemporary theatre, musicals and the classics. There is also a host of weekly classes, school workshops and holiday weeks.

The Apprentice Scheme is open to anyone over the age of 18 and is an ideal opportunity for someone planning a career in the theatre. It runs from the beginning of September 2013 until August 2014, and the closing date for applications is 5PM on Friday 28 June.

For detailed information pack about the scheme or an application form, please visit the Yvonne Arnaud web site or call the youth department on 01483 565191.
