Now in its eighth year, Guildford's Yvonne Arnaud Youth Theatre is looking for its next lucky applicant to offer an experience in all things theatre, courtesy of their Apprenticeship Scheme.

It is one of the busiest youth theatre groups in the south of England, producing devised work, contemporary theatre, musicals and the classics, as well as running weekly classes, school workshops and holiday weeks.

Based within the Youth Department, the apprentice role includes assisting in classes and workshops, working on Youth Theatre productions and gaining experience in marketing, funding, stage management, theatre operations and administration.

The post runs from September to August, and during that year the successful candidate will work extensively in practical theatrical disciplines including lighting, sound and prop and costume making.

The apprenticeship culminates in stage managing the Youth Theatre's two-week production run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Head of Youth and Education, Nick White, explained: "this is the eighth year we have run the scheme and it's been a great success for both the Theatre and the apprentices who embark on their careers having already gained knowledge, insight and a year of experience working in theatre.

"All of our apprentices have been very different—some have focussed on performance, whereas others have been more interested in arts administration, or have shown a real flair for design or sound and lighting.

"The qualities we look for are energy, enthusiasm, initiative and someone who can fit into the small but dedicated Youth Theatre team."

Open to anyone aged 18 and over, the closing date for applications is 5PM on Friday 26 June.

For detailed information pack about the Apprenticeship Scheme or an application form, visit the theatre's web site or call the Youth Department on 01483 565191.
