Honorary Patron Brian Blessed OBE will take part in Guildford Shakespeare Company's fundraising gala performance at the end of its 10th anniversary year.

Staged at The Marquee at Guildford Cathedral, The Play's The Thing will include a performance charting the 10-year story of the company, featuring scenes and speeches from its 31 shows narrated by GSC's co-founders Matt Pinches and Sarah Gobran.

Gobran said, "2016 has been a fabulous year, and the production and special events we have staged have made it even more special.

"The people of Guildford have really taken GSC to their hearts. It is incredibly humbling and inspiring to consider the journey we have been on from two actors putting on a play to now running a building, a full-time salaried office team and having created over 80 jobs for artists across the year".

The gala evening is the last fundraising event for GSC's New Beginnings project to fund a permanent home for the company.

Pinches said, "finding a permanent home where we can grow and develop is paramount in helping us achieve our goal of being one of the most recognised theatres in the South East, a model of performance and production excellence and regional experts in Shakespeare education."

During the evening, there will be an auction chaired by Blessed, along with a raffle.
