Half-term activities at Midlands theatres

Midlands theatres are gearing up to provide activities for all the family during the October half term.

The Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford will undertake workshops including creating a Shakespeare play in a day; stage fighting; how fake wounds are created; singing; and a chance to join members of the Richard II company on the Royal Shakespeare Theatre stage.

The workshops will be held during the week beginning Monday, 28 October.

Arts and cultural venues across Coventry and Warwickshire are teaming up to offer a series of events as part of the first UK-wide Family Arts Festival.

Families can take advantage of more than 24 events across Coventry and Warwickshire, ranging from storytelling at the Belgrade Theatre to NoFit State Circus and Dinosaur Zoo at Warwick Arts Centre.

Dinosaur Zoo will also be part of the week of performances, free activities and workshops at Leicester’s Curve, and will appear in the theatre from Tuesday until Thursday (22 until 24 October).

Throughout the week, a free programme of taster workshops and activities will be on offer including street and Bollywood dance classes, family poetry writing workshops and singing with Curve children’s choir.

The world of Kenneth Grahame’s The Wind In The Willows will be brought to life in two drama courses run by Northampton Royal and Derngate.

Children aged from seven to 11 can enjoy three days of creative activities from Monday until Wednesday, 28 until 30 October, or from Thursday until Saturday 31 October until 2 November.

Young performers can get into the Halloween spirit in the Play In A Week at The Core At Corby Cube.

From Monday until Thursday, 28 until 31 October, children aged 8 to 12 will work alongside professional puppeteer and drama-therapist Lisa Shepherd, of Imaginary Ordinary, to create a spooky new play using puppetry, improvisation and storytelling.
